2. The dawn of fascism

Posted on 17 November 20195 May 2020 by Filippo

I remember my grandpa’s broad shoulders rocking over his bicycle, as I was cycling behind him on the road linking Ariano to Adria. It was a bright summer day, with no clouds nor wind, which was crushing Polesine, the province of my hometown Rovigo, under a red-hot sun. The afternoon Continue Reading

2. L’avvento del fascismo

Posted on 11 November 20195 May 2020 by Filippo

Ricordo la schiena larga di mio nonno piantata sulla sua bicicletta, mentre pedalavo dietro di lui lungo la strada che collega Ariano ad Adria. Hi there!

About me and this blog

Ciao! My name is Filippo. Welcome to my blog.

This is the diary of my journey through a bit of my family and Italy’s history. Here I stitch together historical facts with the memories I have of my grandpa Adolfo Pavani, who fought as a second lieutenant of the Italian Bersaglieri with the Allies in World War II. And I’ll be happy if you’ll share this journey with me. Wanna know more about me and my grandpa? Click here. Do you prefer to read my posts in Italian? No problem: I always post in both English and Italian.

If you are interested in understanding better what this project is about before reading all the posts, head here for videos and interviews about it.

Finally, this is not just a blog but also a space to hold conversations. So any comment on my articles is welcome. Especially from anyone with similar experiences or with information and material that can help me painting a clearer picture of what my grandpa and his unit experienced when contributing to the liberation of Italy. For a list of the sources I used for my posts check out these books and websites.

So let’s stay in touch! 🙂
